It's typical isn't it??!! We worry so much about whether it is going to rain on Sports Day - and then we end up with a heatwave!!
A few parents have asked whether Sports Day will go ahead or not due to the heat. As things stand, we are intending to hold it as planned.
The forecast for Wednesday is sunny and cloudy and 23 degrees which is manageable. Each session is expected to last no more than an hour and a half (shorter for the younger children) and we will be putting measures in place to reduce any risks the weather may pose. The children will be seated in the shade and will have rest breaks in between each race/event they are taking part in.
Please can parents ensure that ALL children have a sunhat and water bottle in school and that sun cream is applied in the morning before school. They will take their drinks out with them to sip throughout their Sports Day session.
We will continue to monitor the forecast and should temperatures sore higher than currently expected on Wednesday, we will review our plans and notify parents with as much notice as possible.
The forecast is predicting that temperatures will get hotter later in the week - I have updated our warm weather risk assessment and shared it with all staff. These measures will be followed as appropriate. Active uniform will need to be worn on Tuesday and Wednesday this week for Sports Day and practises. On Thursday and Friday, children can wear EITHER summer uniform or active uniform - whichever they feel most comfortable in in the weather. Guidance advises that light, loose fitting clothes are best in hot weather. Take care and stay safe in the sun.
I think the ice cream van will be busy at the fayre on Friday!!
