Happy Birthday Sir David Attenborough!

Dear Parent/Carers,

Sir David Attenborough Day

Sir David Attenborough is 100 on 8th May! In school, we would like to celebrate this huge milestone, as well as the amazing things he has achieved and done for our world during his lifetime.

On Friday, children are invited to wear own clothes for the day for a donation to take part. ‘Nature’ or ‘animal’ themed clothes/outfits are encouraged but there is NO expectation or requirement for parents to purchase outfits especially. The money raised will be used to ‘adopt’ an animal through the World Wide Fund for Nature. The cost of adopting an animal is £5 a month and this not only protects the species adopted, but it also funds the wider conservation work of the WWF around the world. Please give what you can. Should enough money be raised, we will adopt more than one animal.

On Friday, each class will be researching and completing a ‘Fact File’ about their chosen animal. This will be run as a competition and the creators of the best fact files from across the school will be chosen to help select which animal(s) we adopt, if they have donated. Please make your donation via the Gateway app.

The selected class animals will be –

🦋 Reception – Butterfly

🐧 Year 1 – Penguin

🐸 Year 2 – Frog

🐘 Year 3 – Elephant

🦈 Year 4 – Great White Shark

🦧 Year 5 – Orangutan

🦍 Year 6 – Mountain Gorilla

During the afternoon, the whole school will take part in a live Picture News assembly to celebrate the life and work of Sir David with schools across the country.

We look forward to an exciting day but also a day of important learning about our precious world and all who live in it.
